Riviera Nayarit hosted the best Regatta
• The organizers of the International Regatta of Bahia de Banderas stated that the 2011 edition had one of largest number of participants in the 19 years of history of this tournament.
“This year’s Regatta was great, it included a large number of participants and produced completely successful results”, said Jenny Durnan, director of the Banderas Bay International Regatta, which took place between March 8 and 12 at Riviera Nayarit. The event assembled over 58 vessels in a competition where the most important goal was for participants to have fun.
All sailors enjoyed a great atmosphere of camaraderie, starting on the welcome party during the first evening, when they enjoyed a cocktail at the Paradise Village Resort facilities in Nuevo Vallarta, who is hosting the event this year.
On March 10, the different crews and the public were in high spirits and had fun while the vessels made their way to hold the first races. The tsunami generated in Japan was only felt slightly in Riviera Nayarit, and it didn’t affect the liveliness of the competitors, although activities had to be suspended during the second day to safeguard participants, and were resumed on Saturday, March 12.
There were really no revelations; the same ships that took the lead on the 10th repeated their great performances on the 12th. Boats sped through the long courses that were originally planned, and good winds propelled the competition, which allowed for a colorful display of the spinnakers.
The awards ceremony included a beach party with over 400 people that danced to the rhythm of Philo Hayward and The Mexican Shuffle Band.
Riviera Nayarit is a privileged destination for lovers of nautical sports and for tourism associated with maritime activity. The Banderas Bay International Regatta has been taking place here for 19 years and is one of the longest-standing competitions in the country for sailing enthusiasts, as its main objective is for participants to have fun.
The mild climate and winds of March in a sheltered bay make the coast of Riviera Nayarit the ideal setting for sailing competitions. Year after year, the Vallarta Yacht Club has hosted international regattas, and is currently hosting this race.
